Car Overturns on Colorado Boulevard

A black-colored sedan headed east on Colorado Boulevard Tuesday evening rolled over near the Dahlia Drive intersection, and firefighters rushed the driver to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Details about the accident were sketchy. The gender, age and condition of the driver as well as the make, model and estimated speed of the car were not immediately known, LAFD spokesperson Brian Humphrey said. The Los Angeles Police Department's Central Traffic unit is in charge of the investigation into the accident's possible cause, Humphrey said.

The LAFD got several 911 calls at 3:30 p.m. and responded quickly to the accident, Humphrey said.

Four fire companies were initially dispatched to the scene of the accident. However, only a fire engine from LAFD Station 55 on York Boulevard and a rescue ambulance were needed, Humphrey said, adding that the driver of the overturned car was not trapped in the wreckage and was freed relatively easily.

Six firefighters participated in the rescue operation, and the injured driver was taken to Huntington Hospital at 4:08 p.m., said Humphrey. Firefighters from Station 42 near Eagle Rock City Hall did not go to the scene of the accident because they were busy responding to calls elsewhere, Humphrey explained.

The accident occurred directly opposite Boyer Cleaners, a dry cleaning store located on 1550 Colorado Blvd., adjacent to the Trader Joe’s parking lot.

The dry cleaning store’s owner, Christina Kim, told Eagle Rock Patch that before it overturned, the sedan side-scraped another car on the passenger’s side, damaging its front right-hand section and making it rear-end an SUV parked nearby on the street. (See photos.)

Firefighters responded to the accident within about two minutes, Kim said. The store owner took photos of the accident with her iPhone, which she provided to Patch.
