International Men’s Day Festivities in Eagle Rock Friday

Join the guys—and gals—at the first-ever celebration of the annual event in The Rock.

Whether you’re male or female, liberal or conservative, chances are you don’t know about International Men’s Day. (Not International Women’s Day. International Men’s Day.)

First celebrated in Trinidad in 1999, International Men’s Day is observed every year on Nov. 19—and it’s about to become an annual feature in Eagle Rock.

From 7 p.m. through midnight today, Friday, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, a nonprofit group located at 1596 Yosemite Dr., will host an International Men’s Day event for the first time in Eagle Rock.

International Men’s Day is sponsored by the National Coalition for Men. According to Marc Angelucci, who grew up in Eagle Rock and is the organization’s vice-president, the annual event is aimed at supporting men’s health and promoting positive male role models, besides improving gender relations and equality, highlighting discrimination against men and boys—and celebrating men’s contributions to society, particularly to community, family and child care.

The event will be catered by Dave’s Chillin-n-Grillin, where pre-sale tickets can be purchased for just $7 each (the ticket price is $10 at the door—cash only). The price includes food—and what must be the cheapest bar drinks in Los Angeles: $3 for a beer.

There’s live music. An Eagle Rock-based country rock band known as Buck Shot Bill will play everything from Bob Dylan to the Dillards. At 9 p.m., an all-female Jimi Hendrix tribute band, aptly called Foxey Lady, will get into the act.

The National Coalition for Men is a non-profit, all-volunteer educational organization. Click here to read more about it. To contact Marc Angelucci, call (888) 223-1280, ext 101 or email him at evp@ncfm.org.
