LAFD Knocks Down Residential Fire on Ridgeview Avenue (UPDATE)

No one was injured in the blaze in the single-story residence.

Update: Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters cut a hole through the roof of a single-story residential house on the 2100 block of Ridgeview Avenue Monday to ensure that a fire that started in one the rooms below had not spread through the attic, according to John Biggs, chief of LAFD’s Battalion 2.

Biggs, who was at the scene of the fire, told Eagle Rock Patch that firefighters were looking for what he called “an extension”—any indication that flames not visible from below had spread elsewhere in the house.

The fire was limited to one room in the house, Biggs said, adding that the cause is under investigation.

Nobody was injured in the incident, Biggs confirmed. “It could have been a lot worse,” a middle-aged man who evidently owns the affected house told Eagle Rock Patch, adding that damage to property was minimal.

According to LAFD spokesman Erik Scott, 26 firefighters responded to the fire at 10:53 a.m. from five stations, including on Colorado Boulevard and Fire Station 55 on York Boulevard in Eagle Rock.

The presence of additional fire companies enabled the firefighters to preserve much of the homeowner’s belongings, Scott said, adding that the firefighters also searched the roughly 2,000-square foot residence “to ensure that no one was trapped or in need of medical assistance.”

The value of property losses is being tabulated and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Scott said.
