Pocket Park on Eagle Rock Boulevard Rid of Homeless

The haven for itinerants was cleared out by City authorities Tuesday.

If you’ve ever looked around the area where York Boulevard meets the eastern rim of Eagle Rock Boulevard, you might have wondered about a curious encampment in a pocket park between the store and the .

For weeks, if not months, this spot near the 4400 block of Eagle Rock Boulevard was home to a group of itinerants whose belongings could be seen littered all around in a chaotic mess that spilled into plant beds—everything from grocery pushcarts to cardboard boxes, even a wheelchair. (See photos).

If you drive or walk past the intersection today, Wednesday, you’ll find that the tarp-covered carts and other stuff are no longer there. They were removed—and the park’s inhabitants banished—on Tuesday, according to Eagle Rock Chamber of Commerce President Michael Nogueira.

At noon on Tuesday, LAPD Senior Lead Officer Craig Orange and Bureau of Street Services staff cleaned out the pocket park, which had not only become a public eyesore but was allegedly used by the itinerants to store stolen goods, including bicycles, Nogueira told Patch.

Acting on a complaint from a stakeholder in the area, Nogueira said he contacted , who, in turn, sought the LAPD’s help in clearing out the park.
