The Return of Bobby Hise (Part II)

Patch is hoping ERNC member Carolee Mayne gets to Hise before Officer Orange does.

Three months after LAPD Senior Lead Officer Craig Orange ousted him from his perch on the corner of York Boulevard, Alumni Avenue and Eagle Rock Boulevard, Eagle Rock native Bobby Hise is back to the spot he favors over any other in the neighborhood because, as he told Patch back in February, it's centrally located and he can “get around everywhere.”

The last time Patch visited Hise on the traffic island on this busy intersection, he was sitting cross-legged on a mattress, reading a copy of the Los Angeles Times, his belongings scattered all around him. This time, Hise had company—he was being wheeled in by one of his friends as two others waited for him. (See photos.)

As we did the last time around, Patch asked Hise if he's ready to take up a longstanding offer by some of his alumni friends to help rehabilitate him by raising some $1,000 so that he can live off the streets.

Hise has a son in North Carolina and another son in Southern California’s Conejo Valley. He also has a sister in North Carolina, with whom, he says, he would like to live. The only catch is he needs enough funds for a deposit on a rented space at his sister's place, for which he could pay from his modest social security money.

The trouble with this plan is two-fold: First, Officer Orange usually doesn't allow Hise to stay on this intersection too long—he's been evicted 27 times over the years, according to Orange—making it difficult to track him down. And second, before Hise's buddies write their checks, they'd like to be sure he spends their money getting off the streets for good.

Carolee Mayne, a member of the , has met Hise in the past and has offered to help mediate between him and his former ERHS classmates to ensure that any money Hise gets is spent wisely.

The last time around it wasn't exactly easy to find Hise—Carolee got to him only after Officer Orange had ordered him to pack his belongings and hit the road. Patch is hoping that this time it'll be different.
