Wednesday: Public Forum at Oxy on Colorado Boulevard Bike Lanes

Make your voice heard about how the City of Los Angeles Bike Plan might impact Eagle Rock.

The office of Councilman José Huizar is hosting a community meeting Wednesday at Occidental College to discuss the issue of proposed bicycle lanes along the Eagle Rock stretch of Colorado Boulevard, which is part of the 2010 City of Los Angeles Bicycle Plan.

Scheduled from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at the Mosher 1 auditorium near the Norris Hall of Chemistry (see attached map), the public forum is a joint effort that includes the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council , the Eagle Rock Chamber of Commerce, TERA (The Eagle Rock Association), and Take Back the Boulevard, the homegrown initiative to make Colorado Boulevard more amenable to pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

The community forum is aimed at gauging the extent of public support as well as opposition to bicycle lanes on Colorado, Eagle Rock’s busiest thoroughfare that runs roughly parallel to the 134 freeway and is considered by many to be the neighborhood’s main street.

Representatives of the Los Angeles Department of Transportation and Department of City Planning are scheduled to discuss the proposed lanes and their impact on the community at the meeting.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meeting and make their views about bike lanes on Colorado known to the two city departments.

Earlier this month, the ERNC deferred a vote on a motion by Treasurer Ashley Atkinson to support the City of Los Angeles’ proposal to introduce bicycle lanes on Colorado Boulevard.

The ERNC, which postponed the vote to accommodate public input about bike lanes in its discussions, is likely to take up the issue again on April 2 at the monthly meeting of its board at Eagle Rock City Hall. (The ERNC generally meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m., except on public holidays.)
