Updated: Freeway Reopens After Fiery Crash

Two vehicles collided Sunday evening on the Ventura (134) Freeway, sending one rolling over multiple times before catching fire with multiple people trapped inside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Initially reported as a four-vehicle collision, the crash was reported at 6:45 p.m. on the eastbound 134 at Orange Grove Boulevard near Eagle Rock on the way to Pasadena, according to CHP Officer Tatiana Sauquillo.

"One of the vehicles rolled over multiple times and caught fire with multiple people trapped inside," Sauquillo said.

CBS Los Angeles reported that four people were ejected onto the roadway. Those four were hospitalized.

Sauquillo said it was unclear how many people were injured and how seriously. No one had been reported dead by 11 p.m. Sunday.

A SigAlert was ordered in the area, shutting down lanes for several hours, Sauquillo said. The connector from the northbound Glendale (2) Freeway to the eastbound 134 also was closed.

The freeway was reopened at about 9:30 p.m.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation; however, a CHP officer told CBS Los Angeles that "speed and alcohol" may have been a factor.
