A six-inch water main burst on the 2325 block of Norwalk Avenue and along a stretch of Ellenwood Drive Saturday afternoon, causing some disruption on the streets but no injuries to anyone nor any damage to structures.

DWP crews responded to the burst at 2 p.m., DWP spokesperson Kim Hughes said. The burst sent water gushing onto the two streets—and some 40 DWP workers have been busy trying to fix the leak since four firefighters first responded to the scene at 1:49 p.m.

Water supply to 30 customers was affected, Hughes said, adding that the DWP crew expects to repair the pipe by 10 p.m. if not sooner.

The affected stretch of Norwalk Avenue west of Ellenwood was blocked to traffic. Ellenwood Drive, too, was blocked to traffic coming south of Colorado Boulevard.

The cause of the leak is not yet known. DWP workers will take the pipe for analysis to determine the cause, Hughes said, adding that “our main focus right now is to get the pipe repaired in a safe manner.”
