Where's The Cheapest Gas in Eagle Rock?

Two 76 stations are tied at $4.15 a gallon, five cents cheaper than the current citywide average.

In case you haven’t noticed, gasoline prices have been behaving like the weather lately—both are heating up.

The average price per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Los Angeles-Long Beach on Tuesday is $4.20, compared to $4.02 a month ago, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. That’s an average current price 34 cents higher than the national average, although a penny lower than the current average state price.

Finding the cheapest gas in Eagle Rock can be a tricky exercise, not least because several gas stations are offering a cash price as well as a credit price—and the difference isn’t readily apparent if you drive by gas stations and miss the fine print.

Don’t hold your breath quite yet, but the cheapest gas in Eagle Rock today is at the Shell station on Eagle Rock Boulevard and El Paso—$4.10 for a gallon of regular unleaded, making it 10 cents cheaper than today’s citywide average.

But here’s the catch: The price is good only if you take your car to the gas station’s “new car wash”—a sign that has on display here for at least the past three years.

So, if you’re not in the mood to get your car washed and still want to get your tank topped with the cheapest gas in town, you have two choices.

You can head to the 76 station on Colorado Boulevard and Highland View Avenue, near —which is the only gas station, it turns out, between the Eagle Rock Boulevard crossing and the 134 freeway entrance. Or you could go to gas station on Eagle Rock Boulevard.

Both those gas stations offer a cash price and a credit price. As it happens, the cash price for regular unleaded at both stations is tied at $4.15, as is the price for “premium” gas, which is $4.35 per gallon. The price for plus is slightly different: $4.25 at the Colorado Boulevard 76, and $4.27 at Rouben’s Union 76.

Because everyone’s mind is focused on high gas prices, it doesn’t hurt to mention where in Eagle Rock you can find the most expensive gas.

Coincidentally, two stations are competing for this particular honor, and they’re both on opposite corners of Colorado Boulevard and Eagle Rock Boulevard. The Mobil station and the Shell station at this major intersection are selling regular unleaded for $4.27 a gallon—six cents higher than today’s state average.
