5 Ways to Kickstart The Week

Get all fired up by exercising—and that includes your right to be creatively inspired and involved in community affairs.

1. Whether it’s rainy, smoggy, sunny or freezing, there’s really no excuse for not getting your exercise, especially since you can “walk-a-dile” at the Eagle Rock Plaza. Walk a what, you say? Walk-a-Dile is a thrice-weekly communal walking program in which participants walk together as one united whole, like the different parts of a crocodile, instead of doing so alone. That’s right—Walk-a-Dilers meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday to walk the mall from 8-10 a.m. , 2700 Colorado Blvd., 323-256-2147.

3. Okay, perhaps it’s not a walker’s but a dancer’s heart that beats inside your breast. If so, did you know how lucky you are to have one of the most distinguished and beloved dance instructors in L.A. right here in Eagle Rock? Her name is Patsy Metzger—and she has made hundreds of dancers dreams come true. So go right ahead and experience the joy of dancing at the today. There are tap and jazz classes for kids and a flamenco class for adults. 5. If you haven’t seen the stunning photography exhibition underway at José Vera Fine Art & Antiques, make this your day to do so. The art gallery is hosting “The Golden Age of Mexican Photography™: The Fine Art Photography of Samuel Gutierrez & Herminio Lopez, 1930s-1950s,” until April 25. It’s the first-ever public display of a dazzling collection of photographs preserved by Victor Herminio Lopez, the son and nephew of the late photographers. The collection includes an array of remarkable black-and-white photos such as the one shown here—of Victor Lopez’s great-aunt Celia Gonzalez Gutierrez (1916-2002), riding a Harley. , 2012 Colorado Blvd., 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
