5 Ways to Spend Thursday

Cuban food, relaxing wine, Spanish stories, free film and a sermon.

1. Don't forget: Spanish storytime at the  is now on Thursdays at 3 p.m. You know the drill: stories, crafts, songs and fun! 5060 Eagle Rock Blvd., 323-739-0870.

2. For a nice wind-down after work, why not stop by the ? The wine bar will be open from 4-9 p.m. and six different flavors of wine will be served. Salut! 2114 Colorado Blvd., 323-478-1985.

3. The Eagle Rock Brewery will host the "No Jodas!" truck today from 7-10 p.m. "No Jodas!" is hard to miss; it's a black and orange truck featuring palm trees. Inside the truck is a Cuban kitchen serving up sandwiches, platanos, rellenos and more. The taprooms will be open from 4 p.m. onward as well. 3056 Roswell St., 323-257-7866.

4. As part of the Film and Media department's "Cinematheque Series," the 1979 film Boulevard Nights will be presented in a free showing at 7 p.m. The screenwriter and the main actor will both be there to discuss the controversial film, which chronicles Chicano life in East Los Angeles. The film will be shown in Johnson Hall, room 202. 1600 Campus Rd., 323-259-2500.

5. At 8 p.m. in Herrick Hall, youth pastor and Eagle Rock resident Cameron Hackett will speak on fear as part of the series titled, "Barriers That Keep Us From God." This is an Intervarsity Christian Fellowship event free and open to the public. 1600 Campus Rd., 323-259-2500.
