Operation Pothole Needs You

Tired of bumping your way through Eagle Rock? Here's something fulfilling (and filling) you can do this weekend.

I don’t know about you, but my 10-year-old station wagon has had just about enough of bumping down the side streets of Eagle Rock (and so has my 8-year-old in the back seat). It’s no secret that many of our neighborhood streets need tending. And that’s where Operation Pothole comes in.

This weekend, in conjunction with the nonprofit organization Big Sunday, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is launching Operation Pothole. The mayor is asking all of us to keep our eyes on the streets, and help us identify the potholes that cause us the most grief.  The culmination of this campaign will happen on June 4 and June 5 when nearly 100 City Street Services crew members will blanket Los Angeles with goal of filling 20,000 potholes.

What’s the worst Eagle Rock pothole you’ve stumbled upon lately? Post its location here in the comments section of Eagle Rock Patch and/or call 3-1-1 to shout it out to the city. Below are some other ways you can get your pothole the attention it deserves. Because all our journeys should be a little bit smoother, no?

Follow these essential Operation Pothole steps to take to get your pothole noticed.

1.  Starting Friday, call 3-1-1 to report potholes.

2.  Starting today, report potholes online at http://bss.lacity.org/request.htm.

3.  Starting today, e-mail your fellow board members and neighbors to see if they are interested in forming a "Pothole Patrol."

4.  Starting this weekend, with pencil and paper in hand, walk through your neighborhood with your Pothole Patrol and systematically document potholes.

5.  If this weekend is too soon for you, patrol the following weekend or at a later time.  Just remember that we'll need you to report to the City as soon as is feasible, so that we can schedule your filling for the June 4 through 5 grand Operation Pothole event.

6.  If you have organized a Pothole Patrol and identified a large swath of potholes to report, you can designate a lead person to contact me directly at Joseph.Hari@lacity.org.
