Good food and a family atmosphere at Friday's weekly market is a boon for the community.

Exactly 125 years ago today, Coca-Cola was first brewed as an elixir for the brain as well as a cure for hangovers, stomach aches and headaches. As we approach Earth Day next month, however, this may be a good time to be more aware of what we eat and drink.

Eagle Rock is fortunate in that it has a weekly farmers market. It may not be the great "equalizer" that Coke is—after all "no amount of money can get you a better Coke," as Andy Warhol famously quipped—but the Friday evening event certainly is a blessing for Eagle Rockers who prefer to stock up on healthy produce for the week.

What's more, whether you're there to get a great bite alone, with a date—or with family, the Eagle Rock Farmers Market on Merton Avenue is probably one of the safest and most fun markets of its kind.
