Repainting of Wrong House Number Leaves Resident Peeved

A curbside address company charges $20—and botches the job by painting a wrong digit on an Avenue 45 house.

An Eagle Rock resident who paid $20 to a service that repaints curbside addresses found to her dismay Friday that the service had painted the wrong house number.

“Last week some folks came by our house to paint addresses on our curb,” the resident, who asked that her name not be used, told Eagle Rock Path, adding: “We paid for this—today we realized they painted the wrong address.”

The Eagle Rocker, who lives on Avenue 45, near Occidental College, said she doesn’t have the information that the painters left her, but some of her neighbors still have the flyer from the same company (see photo).

The flyer carries the name of the painters: Curb Addressing Service.

The service painted one wrong digit in the resident's house number, both in front and the rear of the property.

“The city said that if there's no contact info [on the flyer] they didn't have the proper permits,” the resident said. “Looks like we got scammed, although we wouldn't be so upset if they'd done it correctly.

According to Jimmy Tokeshi, a public relations specialist in the Public Affairs department of the City of Los Angeles, all companies that repaint curb addresses are required by the Los Angeles Municipal code to have a permit as well as insurance.

Tokeshi told Eagle Rock Patch that he has asked the enforcement division of the Bureau of Street Services for a list of all companies that have permits to repaint curb numbers. The bureau would make the list available Monday, Tokeshi said.

Meanwhile, here’s a toll-free Bureau of Street Services complaint number that residents can call for any curb repainting issues: (800) 996-2489.
