Southbound Traffic on North Figueroa Reopened

Traffic was stalled until from 6 a.m. until noon for filming of CBS' "The Mentalist."

Southbound traffic was again flowing on North Figueroa Street as of 1:20 p.m. on Monday afternoon, after a single lane was reopened for motorists.

Several southbound traffic lanes from Ave. 57 northward were blocked on Monday between 6 a.m. and noon for the filming of a movie called The Metalist, according to retired LAPD officer Joe Gomez. (He assured Highland Park-Mount Washington Patch that the production responsible for halting traffic was not CBS's The Mentalist.)

Edit: A community member near the scene assured Patch that the production filming was indeed, "The Mentalist."

Parking lanes on both sides of street on North Figueroa from Ave. 57 heading northbound will remain closed until midnight, as well as one southbound lane of Ave. 57, said Gomez.

Despite the single lane shutdown, traffic appeared to be flowing smoothly, albeit a bit slower than usual.

Whatever the production is called, to shut off the only ingress/egress from Highland Park to all points south is outrageous. What are people supposed to do, drive all the way over to Eagle Rock and then double back? For the sake of a stupid tv show? Our values are backwards.

Sara, thanks for your comments! According to the officer, motorists were diverted to Marmion Way via the Avenues.

As much as we need jobs in Los Angeles in general, and in the film industry in particular, a 2 block detour to Marmion Way for a day seems a very small price to pay for filming happening in our community! The closure was advertised for at least 2 days in advance, and there are a variety of streets nearby that can provide alternate routes, including some on the other side of the 110.
