A huge tree collapsed late last night on Yosemite Drive near Eagle Rock Boulevard amid a heavy rainstorm that has saturated large parts of the neighborhood, residents nearby said.
It was the second incident of its kind over the past 10 weeks, just a short distance from where another tree blocked Yosemite Drive in both directions. Unlike the last incident, however—which occured on Dec. 29, 2010, and caused no damage—the fallen tree on Sunday damaged three vehicles, pinning one underneath.
According to residents, all three cars ran into the tree when it was already down. The last car was evidently carrying a mother and two children, who were injured and taken to the hospital, according to witnesses.
The busy street became something of a nightmare for travelers, who were forced to take detours. Student from nearby were unable to traverse the thoroughfare and had to find alternate driving routes to school this morning.
