The Future of Eagle Rock

Which businesses or features would you add to the neighborhood?

Eagle Rock has gone through a remarkable transformation over the past few years. Along Colorado Boulevard and Eagle Rock Boulevard, new businesses and restaurants constantly add to the neighborhood’s changing landscape. Yet there’s a sense that Eagle Rock’s social and commercial life could be even more vibrant.

Last week, during TERA’s Who’s Coming to Dinner annual fundraiser, we asked President Bob Gotham what he’d like to see added to Eagle Rock. Bob replied that he’d love to see a few antique stores in Eagle Rock. “It’s kind of a natural for the feeling of our community,” he said. “We just fit in.”

With Bob as our first respondent, Eagle Rock Patch presents a round up of perspectives about what would make a great addition to the neighborhood.

In this installment, we ask Michael Larsen, president of the , about his favorite new Eagle Rock business over the past two years and which businesses or neighborhood features he would most like to see in Eagle Rock. His response:

  • “My favorite business in Eagle Rock is the . They are the epitome of a great local business. They have thoughtful, handpicked products. Their price points and recommendations are always spot on. Most of all, the owners, Jen and John, live in and care deeply about Eagle Rock.”
  • “I'd love to see more places where the kids could hang out. We have an amazing, world-renowned college here and Eagle Rock should really have more of the traditional positive features of a college town. Part of the problem is that L.A. is such a car culture—kids can just as easily go to Silver Lake or Los Feliz to hang out. I'd like to lure them back by making walking and bike riding more pleasurable and safe. I'm encouraged by [TERA’s] Take Back The Boulevard campaign that just started, which will re-envision Colorado Boulevard to make it pedestrian- and bike-friendly. Slow it down, plant more trees, give space to bikes, create safe crosswalks."
