5 Best Parks for Eagle Rockers This Summer

Eagle Rock and its environs have some awesome parks to spend your afternoons.

1.

This spacious park (the recent scene of ) features barbecues, three baseball diamonds, two football fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, an auditorium, new outdoor fitness equipment and a playground.

There's easy parking in the adjacent parking lot, restrooms and plenty of open space and trees. It's the perfect spot for a picnic, sports game or afternoon read-a-thon.

Visit their site or call them at (323) 257-6948 to find out more about various cheer programs, tennis programs, senior citizen get-togethers, first aid classes, summer camps and sports leagues that the park offers. The park is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and Saturday through Sunday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Yosemite Park boasts basketball courts, tennis courts, a playground, handball courts, auditoriums (which hold up to 250 people) and plenty of picnic tables, as well as picnic pavilions. There are restrooms and free parking.

The park can also be booked for private events. Call them at (323) 257-1644 or visit their site to find out more information. The park is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

This is the Getty of Eagle Rock parks. Established by the Eagle Rock Association (TERA), it is a horticultural showcase in which the community can gather to check out plant metamorphosis in all its wondrous stages.

4. GRIFFITH PARK (4730 Crystal Springs Dr.)

To visit this awesome park, which happens to be one of the nation’s largest urban wilderness areas, you'll have to venture just a bit out of Eagle Rock by taking a short detour from the 2 freeway to the 5 North into the 90027 Zip Code.

With horseback trails, jogging paths, hiking trails, tennis courts, swimming, soccer and much more, there's plenty to keep the whole family busy.

Best of all, Griffith Park is currently offering free Shakespeare plays in the park—fancy watching Hamlet and then asking yourself which of these listed parks is the best “to be or not to be” in. Visit Griffith Park's site here for more information.

5. FOREST LAWN MEMORIAL PARK (1712 South Glendale Ave.)

While this might not be the most obvious choice for an outing, Forest Lawn, located in nearby Glendale, houses an impressive permanent collection in its museum, including a copy of Leonardo Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" and other original paintings.

There are also events, lectures, events and exhibits held at Forest Lawn. Visit their website to check for events as they happen. Currently, the art of 1960s political artist Artis Lane is on display. Forest Lawn is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
