Opening Reception for "City To A Fault, Los Angeles and Environs"

José Vera Fine Art & Antiques is pleased to announce “City To A Fault, Los Angeles and Environs.”  The exhibition, which runs from November 1 to 29, 2011, features perspectives of Los Angeles’ urban atmosphere by five of Southern California’s most noteworthy Plein Air painters: Oscar Arroyo, Jose De Juan, John Kilduff, Alex Schaefer, and William Wray.

“En plein air” is a French expression meaning “in the open air”, and is often used to describe the act of painting out of doors, directly from nature. Plein Air painting became increasingly popular in Europe in the late 1800’s with the invention of paint in tubes. California Plein Air painting gained popularity in the Bay area and Southern California in the early 20th century.  “City To A Fault, Los Angeles and Environs” offers the viewer over 40 unique Plein Air perspectives of Los Angeles that are as varied as the artists themselves.

“City To A Fault, Los Angeles and Environs” will be on view from November 1-29, 2011. The opening reception is on Saturday, November 12 from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm. The event is free and open to the public. Also on view in Jose Vera’s Gallery X-43, “Visit the Moment: 25 Years of Art Time”, includes paintings, wood-cuts, and hand-made jewelry by Ojai-based artist, Kostas Lekakis. The exhibit will also be on view from November 1-29, 2011, with an opening reception on November 12 from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm.

José Vera Fine Art & Antiques is located at 2012 Colorado Blvd. in Eagle Rock (Los Angeles, CA 90041). The gallery phone number is (323) 258-5050 and the website is www.joseveragallery.com. The gallery is open Wednesday - Sunday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, and on Monday and Tuesday by appointment.
