Indulge In An Evening Of Art

From mixed media to critters in art, an aesthetic feast for the senses.

Every second Saturday, art galleries stretching from Eagle Rock to Echo Park open their doors to art lovers for a self-guided tour lasting late into the night.

Today, Saturday, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m., you can enjoy another round of NELAart magic right here in Eagle Rock—and just across the border into Highland Park.

Go to the NELAart Second Saturday Gallery Night site, print out a map, and enjoy, explore and appreciate some of the best art in town, including shows that will be opening tonight.

Here are some of the Eagle Rock galleries, in no particular order that will remain open for the art walk tonight:

offers two shows of photography. The first, which opens tonight, is titled “Destiny: An exhibition of Distinctive Mixed Media Photography by Ben Mahler.” The second show is “Eternal Hollywood: An exhibition of Gelatin Silver Prints by Alan Kroeber.”

launches an ocean-themed group show titled “Treasures of the Sea.” The show, which contains the works of more than 30 artists, features acrylic and oil paintings on canvas and wood, mixed media works, drawings, watercolors, assemblage and even dolls.

might have something special going on tonight, but even if they don’t, the odds are that you will find something delightful and entertaining.

The , appears to be closed because of some plumbing/water damage. The good news is that they will be getting new floors.

 will be hosting a silent art auction benefit event to help cover the remaining medical bills for a friend's acoustic neuroma brain tumor surgery. You are invited to open your heart—and bid on art and jewelry. The silent auction starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. A raffle drawing is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Free drinks and Bloody Mary Shelley cocktails will be served, in addition to “Raw Bites” pure cocoa truffles. A Pie N' Burger truck will be parked in front of the store on Eagle Rock Boulevard.

Down at 4959 York Blvd., MorYork Gallery has an exhibition, “Xenotropi,’ which showcases the sculptural work of Gordon Bowen. 

Kristi Engle Gallery, at 5002 York Blvd., has a debut show called “Wicked Little Critters.” Curated by Anne Hars, the exhibition highlights the relationship between critters and humans in art—and how much artists project human characteristics onto animals. The 12 artists in the show are Stephanie Allespach, Krista Chael, Erin Cosgrove, Leeza Doreian, Chris Doyle, Matt Driggs, Dana Hoey, Mitsuko Ikeno, Ian Patrick, Hirsch Perlman, Christopher Reiger and Holly Topping.

Finally,  is on the Second Saturday art walk map as a participant. Sometimes, but not this month, this delightful store partners with next door and feature music and merriment.
