PHOTO: Colorful New Mural Pops Up on York Boulevard

The artists "Cube" is credited for the mural.

Have you noticed the new mural on York Boulevard's Digicolor?

It was completed last Tuesday by an artist called "Cube."

According to Digicolor owner Marcos Perez, the eye-catching mural was pitched to him through a project coordinated by the Armory Center for the Arts in South Pasadena.

Perez said another mural is planned for Cafe de Leche in the near future.

We will have more details on the mural project soon.

Also the Armory Center for the Arts is in Pasadena not South Pasadena. It was probably part of this program http://www.armoryarts.org/education/armory-community-program/artworks/ . In any case neither city would allow a sign like that. They had to come to our ghetto neighborhood to do it. You don't see signs like that on the westside either. Thank you Councilman Huizar.

Huizar, apparently, didn't study Art History at Princeton. Yuck.

It's definitely eye catching. At least it's simple, unlike that offensive horrid mess on the market on York and 56.

instagrafite on instagram has great examples of quality murals. If we are going to support street art on Highland Park structures, it would be nice to have have reputable artists do the pieces. Highland Park needs drastic help when it comes to murals.

@carol I think you are referring to Guerreros on Avenue 55 and York, I'm surprised you don't know them or the family that runs the market. Aren't you on the Highland Park committe, they have been in Highland Park for years. It was one of the first places I was told about when I moved to Highland Park -- actually by my artist friends who love that storefront and the murals. I actually featured one of their murals on the wall of Ave 55 on my blog and have gotten as of now 35 emails from literally all over the world asking who the artist is. I guess just goes to show different strokes for different folks.
