Best Taco on the Eastside

Nominate your pick for ‘Best Taco’ in Echo Park, Silver Lake, Atwater, Los Feliz, Eagle Rock, Cypress Park, Glassell Park, Highland Park or Mount Washington. We'll put it to a vote and find out what is the Readers' Choice 2012 winner.

Patch is relaunching its Readers’ Choice program.

We’re asking you, your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and anyone else who knows about tacos to nominate the best places for this Mexican staple on the Eastside.

We know folks are mobile in trying to make the most of their neighborhoods. So we decided to team up so our pick truly represents where you live and may also travel.

Pick from among the neighborhoods covered by the Echo Park-Silver Lake, Eagle Rock and Highland Park-Mount Washington Patches: Echo Park, Silver Lake, Atwater, Los Feliz, Eagle Rock, Cypress Park, Glassell Park, Highland Park or Mount Washington

We’ll keep accepting nominations through July 9. After that, nominations will be closed and we’ll start the voting, so make sure to get in your favorites now.

To nominate a taco restaurant, just mention it in the comments below.

If you already see your nominee there, second it with a comment of your own.

Thanks in advance for your participation.

Cacao Mexicatessen. Handmade chewy corn tortillas surround delicious fillings that are modern takes on traditional Yucatan dishes. And the huitlacoche is insanely good!

A vegetarian entry: the perfect potato taco at Senor Fish.

You said Eastside... Guisado's corner of Cesar Chavez & St. Louis in Boyle Heights. Hands down. As my wife calls them, "gourmet tacos."
And for the uninitiated, do yourself a favor and get over there. Simply amazing. The chicken tinga and conchita pibil will blow your mind.

The street vendor outside the thirsty crow. Absolutely amazing what he can do on a sidewalk.
Magie Song, L.Ac June 22, 2012 at 02:30 pm
La Esquinita on Sunset between Elysian Park and Marion. Very friendly family run. Papa's carnitas and mama's salsas...the smokey red and the verde are amazing.

HAPPY TOM'S RESTAURANT - best carne asada tacos, try them!!!!!!!!

El Chapin Potato and Cheese Fried Tacos. El Chapin is located in the evenings out of the Highland Cafe kitchen next to The York. Yum!!! Be still, my beating heart, literally.
Shawn Richardson June 22, 2012 at 10:11 pm
Guisados is great, but it doesn't satisfy a taco craving for me.
Lisa Derrick June 22, 2012 at 10:46 pm
YOu may want to break it down by best meat/best vegetarian. There are some rad veg tacos out there-- I'm not even a veg and I crave cacoa's and that vegan place on Colorado.

Hurrache Azteca on York. The best Mexican Homestyle in L.A.!
Hank Hill June 23, 2012 at 05:19 am
Antojitos Guerrero on York has unreal potato tacos. Heaven in a shell.

Leo's. Al pastor.

This is like a taco lover mosh pit.
I nominate the truck that used to park next to the Crocker Bank (now a laundrymat??) that's now parked on the other side of the street.
Paul Redmond June 25, 2012 at 11:00 am
Sometimes it's hard to distinguish the flavor from the ambience. Sometimes it's even harder to distinguish that from the condiment station. I'm gonna go with an old standard, El Gran Burrito, the outdoor kitchen section.
zkor1ekim June 27, 2012 at 06:53 am
La Estrella's al pastor. It's like crack.
For carne asada I still haven't decided on my favorite...

Tacos Delta in Silverlake

Yay! Tacos Delta got a nomination. They seriously deserve it. Love them. Couldn't live without them.
Natalie Garnica August 3, 2012 at 11:36 am
I agree La Estralla but not the truck. Isay the actual place on Avenue 60 in front of highland park pool. They also have the best burritos.
libaryman August 4, 2012 at 04:42 pm
Cacao Mexicatessen is delicious but pricey. I recently went to a wedding and Cacao catered and were stingy with portion sizes and bride said it was so expensive. Sorry not my favorite.
libaryman August 4, 2012 at 04:51 pm
I absolutely love La Estrella Tacos!! They cost $1.25 each and the amount of meat on each taco is very generous. Al pastor and carnitas are my favorite. The lines should speak for itself. The truck on York and Avenue 54, the restaurant on corner of Figueroa and Avenue 60 and the truck on Colorado at the 76 gas station are all the same. Flavors are amazing, salsas are delicous and portions are superb!! Recommend to everyone!

No doubt about it - La Estrella on Avenue 61 and Fig.

Mj: Any witnesses to this incident will probably be key to your attempts to prove your son is notRead More lying. You might want to consider speaking to the parents of the student witnesses to try to ensure that the students will come forward and testify if necessary. If the parents can write—or sign—letters supporting your son's version of events, all the better. Get the letters notarized and send them to the concerned authorities, including at LAUSD and LAPD.

Hope you have phone insurance for stolen phones. If not you can file for a claim with LAUSD.

I have some questions about this camp: 1. What are the ages kids need to be in order toRead More participate? 2. What are the planned camp themes and activities? 3. How much does this camp cost? 4. Are the camp counsel ours CPR and First Aid certified? 5. Are the camp counselors trained in appropriately managing children? 6. Maybe they're moving to the space next door to the Comic Book shop. I'd say that there is a 50/50Read More chance that place becomes a massage parlor. Now that the bike lanes are decided, we need to come together to get these "rub and tug" joints closed.
Scott KS June 7, 2013 at 08:25 am
By the posting I'm assuming that this was known to be a "bad place." I see a lot ofRead More massage "parlors" in the Eagle Rock and Glassell Park area but not a lot of real professional CMT's, which is discouraging since that's my cert and trade.
Elijah H June 7, 2013 at 10:58 am
I'm thinking that this may have something to do with it - from the "Grand Theft Auto"Read More story posted today: "In addition, the vice unit of the LAPD Northeast Community Station arrested four women for alleged prostitution during recent investigations of 10 massage parlors in Eagle Rock, Preciado said. Two others were arrested for running massage parlors without a state massage therapy license, Preciado said, adding that the vice unit has not released the addresses where the 10 massage parlors are located.
