Best Vegan Restaurant on the Eastside

Nominate your pick for ‘Best Vegan Restaurant’ in Echo Park, Silver Lake, Atwater, Los Feliz, Eagle Rock, Cypress Park, Glassell Park, Highland Park or Mount Washington. We'll put it to a vote and find out what is the Readers' Choice 2012 winner.

Patch is relaunching its Readers’ Choice program.

We’re asking you, your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and anyone else who knows about vegan restaurants to nominate the best ones on the Eastside.

We know folks are mobile in trying to make the most of their neighborhoods. So we decided to team up so our pick truly represents where you live and may also travel.

Pick from among the neighborhoods covered by the Echo Park-Silver Lake, Eagle Rock and Highland Park-Mount Washington Patches: Echo Park, Silver Lake, Atwater, Los Feliz, Eagle Rock, Cypress Park, Glassell Park, Highland Park or Mount Washington

We’ll keep accepting nominations through July 9. After that, nominations will be closed and we’ll start the voting, so make sure to get in your favorites now.

To nominate a vegan restaurant, just mention it in the comments below.

If you already see your nominee there, second it with a comment of your own.

Thanks in advance for your participation.

Mohawk Bend! Love me some buffalo cauliflower and oven baked cookie! My husband can have a burger to satiate him as well. Best of both worlds!... and then there's the beer.

I am not a vegan but there are plenty of great vegan dishes at Elf in Echo Park. I love their food.
Mindy Schulman June 27, 2012 at 01:01 pm
a lot of vegan plugs for an animal slaughthouse outlet called Mohawk bend. The Hypocracy. How about Tommy's burgers? The buns are vegan.
mark June 27, 2012 at 01:25 pm
Not eastside and a chain, but I love Veggie Grill. I hope one opens nearby.
sweatywest June 27, 2012 at 01:52 pm
@Diane - yes Elf is a special place, but it's not vegan as they do use some dairy in certain dishes. That said it's not to be missed. One of the best restaurants in all of LA in my opinion. A great place to take carnivores who are squeamish about vegetarian fare.
@Mindy I think some people may have misunderstood the article. True, Mohawk Bend is not vegan. However, their vegetarian and vegan options far outweigh their non vegan options which is the opposite of what you can expect at most restaurants. Getting every person in the world to stop eating meat will simply never ever happen. Getting people to each much LESS meat is a more obtainable goal - one that would still have a great impact on our environment. Here's my point... yes Mohawk Bend should not be considered for the best vegan restaurant but they shouldn't be considered a "animal slaughterhouse outlet" either. That's childish and purposely misleading. Do you actually want to consider going vegan? Because comments like that only alienate. People read that, roll their eyes and say "typical vegan." I'm not a huge fan of Mohawk Bend but in a time when meat centric gastropubs abound, they took a risk by rolling out the menu that they did. Animal Slaughterhouse Outlet. Good grief.
Anthea Raymond (Editor) June 27, 2012 at 05:24 pm
@I am told there are some vegan options now at Taix.
Mindy Schulman June 28, 2012 at 12:21 pm
The good news is that almost ALL high end slaughterhouse outlets are offering vegan and vegetarian options now. It is a huge trend (threat) in their market to which they have no choice but to respond. This is good news for animals and the American diet.
The subject of this poll is favorite VEGAN restaurants, not favorite sides at the steakhouse.
Margarita Gracia June 28, 2012 at 02:16 pm
I vote for Fatty's in EAGLE ROCK.. They are 70% vegan now and (along with Elf) the very best transitional restaurant for carnivores to enjoy rich, gourmet food with outstanding wine and beer and pizza. We go there for every birthday and anniversary.

Mj: Any witnesses to this incident will probably be key to your attempts to prove your son is notRead More lying. You might want to consider speaking to the parents of the student witnesses to try to ensure that the students will come forward and testify if necessary. If the parents can write—or sign—letters supporting your son's version of events, all the better. Get the letters notarized and send them to the concerned authorities, including at LAUSD and LAPD.

I have some questions about this camp: 1. What are the ages kids need to be in order toRead More participate? 2. What are the planned camp themes and activities? 3. How much does this camp cost? 4. Maybe they're moving to the space next door to the Comic Book shop. I'd say that there is a 50/50Read More chance that place becomes a massage parlor. Now that the bike lanes are decided, we need to come together to get these "rub and tug" joints closed.

By the posting I'm assuming that this was known to be a "bad place." I see a lot ofRead More massage "parlors" in the Eagle Rock and Glassell Park area but not a lot of real professional CMT's, which is discouraging since that's my cert and trade.

I'm thinking that this may have something to do with it - from the "Grand Theft Auto"Read More story posted today: "In addition, the vice unit of the LAPD Northeast Community Station arrested four women for alleged prostitution during recent investigations of 10 massage parlors in Eagle Rock, Preciado said. Two others were arrested for running massage parlors without a state massage therapy license, Preciado said, adding that the vice unit has not released the addresses where the 10 massage parlors are located.
