Fatty's Offers 'Lamb Chopper' Fondue for Two

The $30 price is a true bargain—and the organic cheese comes straight from Holland.

, the vegan haven on Colorado Boulevard, is offering a fondue special for two—for just $30—along with their regular dinner menu Thursday through Sunday.

The fondue special features “Lamb Chopper,” an organic gouda cheese, plus salad or soup of the day and organic Eagle Rock Farms grapefruit or mint sorbet.

This is no ordinary fondue, given that Lamb Chopper is an artisan sheep cheese produced in Holland for Cypress Grove Chevre, a noted Northern California company based in Humboldt County that mostly makes goat cheese.

Cypress Grove’s website jokingly describes the Lamb Chopper as a “born to be mild” cheese. It’s “buttery in color and flavor, with a long, complex finish.”

The cheese is made from young to middle-aged sheep’s milk and “tastes so good you’ll forget about the terrible pun on the label,” according to The Functioning Cheese Addict blog. Sweet and fruity at first, the Lamb Chopper gives way to the “grassy tang” typical of sheep’s milk, making it a cheese of “hearty, simple and straightforward beauty,” according to the blog.

“We will run the Lamb Chopper special probably as long as we can get the cheese,” says Fatty’s co-owner Kim Dingle, adding: “It is really a magnificent cheese.”
