Little Beast Finds Permanent Home in Eagle Rock

The rustic American food restaurant has opened where Larkins used to be.

Almost exactly 11 months after Little Beast popped up for a few nights at Le Petit Beaujolais and then disappeared just as suddenly, the rustic American food restaurant has found a permanent home in Eagle Rock.

The restaurant had a soft opening Tuesday in the 1496 Colorado Blvd. Craftsman house that Larkins vacated in November 2011, the bungalow’s centennial year. But it won’t be until Friday that Little Beast will have its grand opening.

“We’re very excited,” Little Beast’s owner and chef Sean Lowenthal told Eagle Rock Patch at the restaurant Wednesday, adding that Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are essentially “practice” for the big bash on Friday.

“It’s like a rehearsal before a play,” said Lowenthal, who last worked as sous chef at the iconic Chateau Marmont in Hollywood.

The restaurant’s name derives from the term of endearment for Miles, the 11-year-old son of Lowenthal’s wife Deborah Schwartz from a pervious marriage.

Little Beast seats 85 people—33 of them indoors—and has the feel of a friendly neighborhood restaurant. It’s the kind of place people would feel comfortable visiting twice a week if they live nearby—and even if they don’t.
