Recall on Trader Joe's Chicken Salad Still Underway

The grocery chain has recalled nearly two tons of its barbeque chicken salad because of a possible contamination of Listeria.

A recall on Trader Joe's barbeque chicken salad that began earlier this week still hasn't ended—and it will be "some time" before the grocery chain begins selling the item in its stores again, according to the manager of the Trader Joe's on Colorado Boulevard in Eagle Rock.

Nearly two tons of barbeque chicken salad sold by Monrovia-based was recalled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service because of a possible Listeria contamination, Medical Daily reported Monday.

The "Class 1" recall means the food, which contains food from Gills Onions where the possible contamination took place, is considered to be "high risk," according to LA Weekly.

From the Food Safety and Inspection Service:

The product was produced between July 20, 2012, and July 24, 2012, and was distributed to retail establishments in Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California, Southern Nevada and Texas.

The salad was prepared by Vernon-based Huxtable's Kitchen.

These products were also discontinued: Trader Joe's Fresh Mild Salsa, Balela, Roasted Butternut Squash, Red Quinoa & Wheat berry Salad and Trader Joe's Diced Onions, Garlic & Shallots Blend, according to Medical Daily.

Trader Joe's will give a full refund for any of this food that is returned to its stores, the manager at the grocery chain's Eagle Rock store said Thursday.
