It’s a sad result of the current economic climate, but just about every few weeks we seem to report here at Patch about another longtime neighborhood shop or restaurant closing down.

Joshua Jordison also lost a favorite neighborhood shop, but he decided to try and do something about it in a big way, so he started Threadcrawl, a seven-day shopping event taking place all over the greater Los Angeles area that will offer customers a chance for discounts at selected clothing stores, including one in Eagle Rock.

“I’m a Los Angeles native and last year there was a particular clothing store that I enjoyed that went bankrupt and out of business,” said Jordison. “I was there just two weeks before and then I went back and it was gone, the sign was gone, everything.”

Eagle Rock has one location participating, Letters From LA, and nearby Echo Park, Silver Lake, Los Feliz and Pasadena have multiple stores also taking part.

Threadcrawl is from Aug. 19 to Aug. 25 and $2 from the $17 ticket will go toward City of Hope, a cancer research and treatment hospital. Ticket holders will be offered discounts at numerous stores all over the county, including Agoura Hills, Beverly Hills, Calabasas, Century City, Hollywood, Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Santa Monica, Studio City and Tarzana. Tickets can be bought at Threadcrawl.com.

Jordison said Threadcrawl gives local businesses a chance to bring in new customers. Stores are offering an average of a 20 percent discount, but according to Jordison, some stores might offer exclusive discounts up to 70 pecent off.

There are 135 store locations that will be participating in Threadcrawl. A few are national chains like Juicy Couture but the majority are local clothing stores. Threadcrawl will also offer discounts to some Los Angeles events. Though the details are still not confirmed, the events include pop-up shops and galleries.

Letters from LA is a women’s clothing store located at 5022 Eagle Rock Blvd. Owner Sasha Martinus said that Threadcrawl sounded like a new exciting idea she wanted to check out.

“I love the idea of being able to offer customers a discount while checking out new stores in our vast city,” Martinus sid. “Actually, I am buying a ticket for myself and finally getting out to a few new stores that I've been wanting to visit.”

Martinus also said that Letter from LA will be offering a 15 percent discount for regularly priced merchandise, excluding jewelry and handbags.
