What's in Season at Eagle Rock's Organix?

The local grocer boasts products that are, for the most part, "organic, seasonal and locally sourced."

More than most grocery stores, it's important to know what's in season when shopping at Eagle Rock's Organix.

That's because, according to co-owner Andrew Perez, the store's produce selection comprises only seasonal, organic and--save for a few items--locally sourced products.

What's in season right now? According to Perez, it's berries and citrus. Though both items can be procured year-round, now is the time when both are most abundant locally.

"Berries are normally $7 per-package, this time of year they are down to $4," Perez said.

Organix is also stocked with roots, root vegetables and greens that, for the most part, can be grown year-round.

"Turmeric, ginger, burdock, beets are almost always in stock," Perez said.

Leafy greens--like kale and spinach, which are grown in Bakersfield by the South Central Farmers' Cooperative--can be found year round at Organix too, Perez said.
