Will You Shop Locally This Holiday Season?

As holiday shopping gets underway and stores fight for your money, how important is it to you to shop locally and ensure that your tax dollars stay within the neighborhood?

Eagle Rock has plenty of specialty stores that are bound to have something for everyone on your holiday shopping list. has an assortment of jewelry and accessories—not to mention stuffed animals and colorful beads. offers holiday portraits for the whole family. has everything from pilsners to pinot noir to satisfy the most snobbish palette.

You might be able to do all your holiday shopping entirely in Eagle Rock—but will you? How important is it for you to shop locally?

The Glendale Galleria—or Americana—is just a hop over the 2 freeway, and there are dozens of retail chain stores there, from Anthropologie to Zales. Many chain stores will have last-minute sales as Christmas approaches—and it’s not easy to avoid their commercials.

You also have the option of avoiding holiday mayhem and doing all of your shopping while seated comfortably behind your computer, with a warm mug of hot chocolate. But take note: If you're shopping online, remember that you owe Internet sales tax whether you're charged sales tax or not. Here are some tips for paying your internet sales tax.

How important is it to shop local? Do you think about how local store owners can benefit from in-town holiday shopping, or do you just shop wherever you can find what you need at a great price?

Where is the "No. I'm not shopping Locally or Mainstream." Many people I know are struggling enough to spend on useless superficial things. We'll just be enjoying the holidays the way there were meant to be enjoyed, with family. I'm sorry for being the pessimist commenter but it's getting more and frustrating to see these Pro-Spending ads/headlines all over. I know, promote small businesses, but some of the businesses in Eagle Rock have shown me that SOME small businesses are not worthy of my business either.

Good point, Erica. Are you planning to do absolutely no holiday shopping—not even a gift or two?
