Patch Blog: Don't Miss Last Teen Summer Reading Club at Eagle Rock Library

Last week at the ’s Summer Reading Club, the theme was jewelry making. And it wasn't just stringing random plastic beads on a string like I thought it might be.

One by one, everyone measured their wrist, picked out two bead patterns, and created their own pattern with eye pins. All the hard work of putting it all together was done by the professionals. The volunteers said that they learned how to make the jewelry from youtube, which even inspired me to look some up, even though I already had a few pliers, beads and wire at home.

Everyone waited very patiently until they were called up, filling out a survey about how they liked the Summer Reading Club. Afterward, everyone received a voucher for a free ticket to the Dodgers game on August 14, and stamps for their game card.

When my turn came, I picked out cooler color patterns, blue and purple, but added some red and pink when I was beading the eyepin. Given the choice of either a gold or silver chain, I chose silver, which most people also chose. The bracelet was completed in a few minutes, and then the meeting was over.

If you haven't joined the Summer Reading Club yet, you've missed out on a lot. All the free books, most of the prizes, and several colored pins, are gone. And all the activities done at previous meetings are already over.

But that doesn't mean it's too late. Today, Tuesday, is the culmination party for all members of the club. I doubt it's too late to join—and like last year’s culmination event, it will probably be a lot of fun.

From what I heard, there will be free food (pizza!), airbrush tattoos, duct tape wallet making, and a top-secret activity I can't tell you about.

So even if you've never heard of these weekly meetings every Tuesday from 3-4 p.m., come for the last one on August 9. And don't forget to sign up next year. See you there!
