Eagle Rock Senior Lead Officer Warns of Residential Burglaries

"Get to know your neighbors and keep a watchful eye out for any suspicious activity," urges Nina Preciado.

A little more than a week after the Northeast Community Station of the Los Angeles Police Department warned on its Facebook page that residential burglaries are on the rise in Eagle Rock, another community alert against burglaries has been issued, this time by Senior Lead Officer Nina Preciado.

In an e-mail blast over the weekend to residents and stakeholders, Preciado reminded neighbors to be vigilant—and social: “Get to know your neighbors and keep a watchful eye out for any suspicious activity,” Preciado’s e-mail reads. “Don't be afraid to call the police if you're suspicious that an individual in your neighborhood might be looking for a house to burglarize.”

The most recent residential burglary in Eagle Rock, according to CrimeMapping.com, the nationwide crime database to which the LAPD contributes real-time statistics, was on the 2700 block of W. Rock Glen Avenue. (Crimemapping.com also reports a burglary on the 4900 block of Sierra Villa Drive on May 21.)

“The suspect pried opened the front door to gain entry into the house,” Preciado said, referring to the W. Rock Glen Avenue incident. A passerby described the suspect as a male, about 20 years of age, with black hair, about 5'6" tall and weighing 140 pounds, the senior lead officer said.

“There was also a residential burglary at the 5300 block of Hartwick Street and a commercial burglary at the 900 block of Colorado Boulevard during the last couple of weeks,” Preciado said, advising residents who observe any suspicious activity to call 911 and provide as much description about a particular suspect as possible, including which direction the suspect was headed and the license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle, if any.

Residents are encouraged to contact detectives in the burglary unit of the Northeast Community Station by calling (323) 344-5761, Monday through Friday. Senior Lead Officer Preciado can be reached directly at (213) 793-0759 and at 32128@lapd.lacity.org .
