Blog: Retired School Teacher Murdered in Simi Valley was ERHS Grad

An Eagle Rock High School alumna whose recent murder in Simi Valley was widely reported in the news is fondly remembered by her one-time friends and classmates.

Janice Somple, a retired school teacher murdered May 31 in her Simi Valley home by a former boyfriend, was a 1964 graduate of Eagle Rock High School, where she was once a popular student.

Janice, who graduated from Eagle Rock High a year after I did, was on the drill team and several other school organizations. My sister, Elly Friezer, who was a classmate of hers, told me that many former schoolmates she had not heard from for decades e-mailed her with the news of Janice's murder.

Several ERHS alumni who knew Janice told me that many of her one-time friends and classmates from Eagle Rock attended her funeral. I myself remember her awesome smile—she was seldom without it on campus—and her dynamic personality.
