Blog: Disaster Preparedness for Business—a Focus in September

September is National Preparedness Month and a local Southern California company is offering free reviews of disaster plans for businesses and institutions.

In recognition of National Preparedness Month, On Scene Emergency Management Solutions is offering businesses and institutions a free review of their existing emergency, contingency, and recovery plans during September.

Preparing our families for unexpected events is extremely important, especially in Southern California. The crippling windstorms of December 2011, the tragic theater shooting in Colorado, and the brush fires striking the Western United States are reminders that disaster preparedness is more than stockpiling supplies and foodstuffs; making sure our local businesses and private institutions are resilient when catastrophe strikes is equally important.

According to the Insurance Information Institute 40 percent of businesses affected by natural or human-caused disasters never reopen. The slower economic anchors of a community reopen, the longer communities feel that things are back to normal. It is important for businesses to invest in their own preparedness, especially since major human and natural disasters will over extend emergency responders.
