Apartment Living on Colorado? How About it!

It’s hard to drive in much of Northeast L.A. these days without running into construction projects for apartment buildings—in all sort of unexpected places. (Go south on Eagle Rock Boulevard in Glassell Park, for example, and you’ll see the ground being laid for an apartment complex between the twin entrances to the 2 Freeway.)

Clearly, demand for apartment housing appears to be keeping pace with the projected 11.4-percent population growth in L.A. County by 2030, according to California Department of Finance figures released this past January.

And so it is that a three-story apartment complex called The Monarch is scheduled to open this summer—right on the edge of Colorado Boulevard and Hartwick Street, the Eastsider L.A. reports.

Consisting of eight residential units and three commercial spaces, the complex, next to the sprawling Eagle Rock Baptist Church, is said to be an early test of Colorado Boulevard’s livability.

“In fact, in addition to prospective tenants, developers who are in the process or looking at building on Colorado Boulevard have stopped by to take a closer look at The Monarch,” says the Eastsider, quoting the apartment complex’s architect Javier Gonzalez.

“The plan is initially to rent out the units before offering them up for sale, depending on the condition of the real estate market,” according to the Eastsider.
