Patch Blog: New Bakery—HERS—Opens in Eagle Rock

Here’s some good news for Eagle Rockers with a sweet tooth: Starting Sunday, there’ll be a new bakery in town.

Called HERS, the bakery is nestled in the shopping mall on the northwestern corner of Colorado Boulevard and College View Avenue. A small bakery with a not-so-small business model, HERS is a one-stop shop for desserts headed by California School of Culinary Arts graduate Tasha Sanchez-Sloan and catering expert Melanie Esparza.

HERS has a menu selection that is sure to satisfy even the most picky dessert lovers. Besides a delicious variety of traditional baked goods, such as Chocolate Peppermint Cupcakes or Pumpkin-Pecan Bread Pudding with Caramel Drizzle, the bakery will offer a vegan selection for health-conscious customers as well as sugar-free treats.

Got a wedding coming up? Don’t just let your guests eat cake—mix it up a bit instead. How about a dessert bar, where a selection of assorted treats ensures that people don’t have to suffer the bride and groom’s postprandial choice?

As it turns out, that’s exactly what HERS has planned for an upcoming wedding. In fact, days before the bakery’s January 8 grand opening, Tasha and Melanie were hard at work, dealing with quite a few catering orders.

They met a few years ago while working in the confectionary section of a busy restaurant. After gaining the necessary experience, Tasha and Melanie decided that the time had come to launch their own business.

HERS is located inside , where it will be replacing . An independent bakery, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week. A brunch featuring a selection of Specialty Pot Pies and other delicacies will be served every Sunday. Fresh—and local—Jameson Brown coffee will be on hand daily.
