Coverage of ERHS sports

henk friezer September 09, 2013 at 02:06 PM As` a longtime ER resident and ERHS alumnus who participated and lettered in various sports at my alma mater, I was dismayed at the hostility by those manning the entrance gates. Over the years I have covered the ER sports/ news scene for nearly 50 years, and have always been received well at my alma mater. Since the demise of the Eagle Rock Sentinel I have not covered local sports as much as I would like. But with the arrival of ER Patch I had the opportunity to cover my community again. This past Friday ERHS played a game vs South Pasadena at home. Usually schools are delighted to get coverage for their athletes and go out of their way to accommodate members of the media so we can highlight the positive (with all the negativity we hear about schools). But to my dismay I found Eagle Rock did the opposite it appeared that they did not care if we covered the game, at first I was refused parking under the guise that no parking was available (not true), because I need my equipment nearby. Then after finding a parking spot, I was denied entry onto the field by an administrator, finally a coach who knew me intervened and with cold looks I was admitted. When I tried to converse with individuals the response was terse, I found the atmosphere on the ER side unfriendly and cold so I went to the visitor side where it was the complete opposite. After getting my shots and departing an administrator at the gate stated" well you don't need to come back" when I complained about the rude behavior. So if you don't see future photos or stories about the Eagles great football team, you will know why. I will be covering other local teams that are more receptive to showcasing their youngsters without the hostility
