From chunky sweaters to polka dots to leather detail, the hippest fall fashion trends have jumped straight from the runways and into Eagle Rock's clothing boutiques.

Living in sunny southern California, the fall weather hasn't hit us quite yet. But, the hottest trends in fall fashion certainly have. We spent a lovely Sunday afternoon mining our favorite Eagle Rock clothing shops to stock up on some fall essentials so that you may know where to find the coolest seasonal must-haves.

The fall runway shows—and subsequent trend stories in our favorite fashion magazines (i.e., Marie Claire, Women's Wear Daily, Vogue, et. al)—are showing a lot of variety for this season. Here's what we discovered (and don't forget to check out the photos on the right!):

Chunky Sweaters: Gone are the thin, low-cut, and more "bombshell" sweaters of the past. Instead, in are looser, chunkier sweaters with wider stitching, thicker threads, and larger necks. Think old-school the way grandma used to knit with yarn. has an amazing grey sweater by Jack for $78 that fits the trend, complete with a hoodie. has a bold black and white striped sweater by Dolce Vita with a funnel neck for $152.

Polka Dots: Replace this spring and summer’s stripes with polka dots for the fall. Finding them won't be hard—every store is stocking up on this popular pattern. Letters from L.A. has a latte polka dot dress by Splendid for $104 that, when paired with a tight and sweater makes a great transition from summer to fall. has a long-sleeved, V-neck, belted blue-and-white polka dot dress for a steal at $28.

Funky Leggings: Leggings are not going away anytime soon. This fall, look for leggings made of sweater materials, leather, and cut like a pant. The new leggings aren’t meant to hide under a long shirt. You wear them out like a regular pant. To channel your inner Rock Goddess, check out my edgiest find from Letters to L.A. They're a black pair of cotton and leather lace-up leggings by Style Stalker for $215.

Hats & Big Bags: Big, bold, and bright bags are all the rage this fall with the dominant colors being mustard, purple, and navy. Lady hits the nail on the trend with a mustard vegan shoulder bag with gold accents and a stunning brown and cream print lining for just $62. As for hats, Owl Talk has an expansive eclectic section of vintage and new hats, including pill box, fedora, newsboy, and fascinators ranging from $24 to $42. Oh, and if you need a hat for your Halloween costume, Owl Talk will likely have it.

Boots: If Owl Talk is the place to go for hats, then is where the best fall boot selection lives. The brand to buy is Eric Michael and the styles range from pirate-inspired to motorcycle to British chic and more, all ranging from $140-$230. Boots adorned with snaps, studs, buckles, and belts are en vogue now in colors ranging from blacks and browns to mustard and taupe—even patchwork.

Eagle Rock Patch is probably not where you want to post this. I don't think anybody is interested inRead More seeing more hillside homes.

Mj: Any witnesses to this incident will probably be key to your attempts to prove your son is notRead More lying. You might want to consider speaking to the parents of the student witnesses to try to ensure that the students will come forward and testify if necessary. If the parents can write—or sign—letters supporting your son's version of events, all the better. Get the letters notarized and send them to the concerned authorities, including at LAUSD and LAPD.

Hope you have phone insurance for stolen phones. If not you can file for a claim with LAUSD.

I have some questions about this camp: 1. What are the ages kids need to be in order toRead More participate? 2. What are the planned camp themes and activities? 3. How much does this camp cost? 4. Are the camp counsel ours CPR and First Aid certified? 5. Are the camp counselors trained in appropriately managing children? 6. Do the camp counselors have stringent background FBI checks and drug tests?

Maybe they're moving to the space next door to the Comic Book shop. I'd say that there is a 50/50Read More chance that place becomes a massage parlor. Now that the bike lanes are decided, we need to come together to get these "rub and tug" joints closed.
Scott KS June 7, 2013 at 08:25 am
By the posting I'm assuming that this was known to be a "bad place." I see a lot ofRead More massage "parlors" in the Eagle Rock and Glassell Park area but not a lot of real professional CMT's, which is discouraging since that's my cert and trade.
Elijah H June 7, 2013 at 10:58 am
I'm thinking that this may have something to do with it - from the "Grand Theft Auto"Read More story posted today: "In addition, the vice unit of the LAPD Northeast Community Station arrested four women for alleged prostitution during recent investigations of 10 massage parlors in Eagle Rock, Preciado said. Two others were arrested for running massage parlors without a state massage therapy license, Preciado said, adding that the vice unit has not released the addresses where the 10 massage parlors are located.
