Low Cost Lung Cancer Screenings

WHAT: Glendale Adventist Medical Center (GAMC) is committed to fighting Lung Cancer disease and is pleased to offer low-cost lung cancer screenings to the general public.  The main test used to detect lung cancer is low-dose computed tomography (CT). A low-dose CT scan uses less radiation than the conventional CT scans.

GAMC’s affordable screenings and services include:

·Non-invasive, low dose CT scan of the lungs

·Fast turnaround time

·Physician referrals

WHY: Lung Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death in the United States. About 85 percent of lung cancer cases are caused by smoking. The risk of developing lung cancer increases with the amount and length of time a person smokes. Risk also increases with age, with most lung cancers occurring in people 55 years and older.

The U.S. Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends an annual low dose CT screening for asymptomatic adults ages 55 to 80, who have a minimum smoking history of 30 “pack years” or who have quit within the past 15 years. A “pack year” is smoking an average of one pack of cigarettes, per day, for one year.
