Apartment Building, Brush Catch Fire in Eagle Rock

A blaze in an apartment building leaves one man slightly injured and a fireman suffers heat exhaustion.

Two fires erupted in Eagle Rock Friday afternoon, leaving one civilian slightly injured and a fireman with heat exhaustion.

The first fire was reported at 1:13 p.m. in a two-story single unit apartment complex at 2242 W Las Colinas Ave., Matt Spence, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

As many as 51 firefighters from about half a dozen fire stations, including in Eagle Rock, extinguished the blaze in 21 minutes, Spence said.

Paramedics treated a man at the scene of the fire for burns to his hand, and a firefighter was rushed to a hospital after he suffered heat exhaustion, Spence said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The second blaze, reported at 2:37 p.m., erupted on the 134 freeway, near the intersection to the northbound 2 freeway, Spence said. Half an acre of grass was still burning, according to the latest LAFD reports at 3:30 p.m., and 15 firefighters were trying to control the blaze.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
