Crime Blotter Update: Drive-By Laptop Swiping at Swork

Monday, May 30

At about 4:20 p.m. on Monday—A Mac laptop was stolen from a briefly unattended table outside .  The owner had left the table for a moment and entered the café when a suspect described by Detective Lou Vargas as an African American male between the age of 18 and 25 ran toward the table, swiped the laptop, and ran east on Colorado Boulevard toward a waiting 1995 Silver Honda sedan. The victim was a student who has his own business, Vargas said. The owner managed to note the license plate on the getaway car and called the LAPD, which is working on the case. Swork barista Justin Hodgson saw the theft occur and described the thief as about 19 years old.

Wednesday, June 1

At about 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday—An Eagle Rock resident was waiting in his car on the crossing of Yosemite Drive and La Roda Avenue for his son to come out of . A suspect, described by Detective Marta Ramos as a 17-year-old or 18-year-old male Hispanic, about 5 feet, six inches tall and 140 pounds, approached the parent and demanded that he hand over an electronic item. The suspect than ran with the item, valued at $950 or more, eastward on Yosemite Drive. An investigation is underway.

Tuesday, May 31

At 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday—An attendant at the Chevron gas station on 4005 Eagle Rock Boulevard, near the Eagle Rock-Glassell Park border and at the corner of the southbound 2 freeway, was robbed of more than $200 in cash by a handgun-wielding suspect. Detective Marta Ramos described the suspect as a 20-year-old to 25-year-old male who was possibly of Armenian descent.

At 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday—A woman at , on 2218 Colorado Blvd., was sitting inside the café, with her purse hanging on the back of her chair when a suspect Detective Marta Ramos described as a male Hispanic grabbed the purse and ran outside. A group of patrons chased the suspect and caught him by the Comfort Inn motel a few blocks west on Colorado Boulevard. The victim, a resident of Atwater Village, recovered her purse intact. The suspect has been arrested and the LAPD is waiting to hear from the District Attorney’s office if charges should be filed against him.
