PHOTOS: Eagle Rock Celebrates Change of the Guard at LAPD Northeast

Community members bid farewell to former Capt. Bill Murphy and welcome his successor, Jeff Bert.

Some 50 people gathered Tuesday afternoon at the Hill Drive residence of Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council President Michael Nogueira to bid farewell to former Los Angeles Police Department Northeast Division Capt. Bill Murphy and welcome his successor, Capt. Jeff Bert.

The event was hosted by the Council District 14 office of Councilman José Huizar.

Murphy, who served as the LAPD Northeast captain for five years, was promoted last month to the post of commander at LAPD headquarters, where will be in charge of personnel and training, including running the LAPD Academy in Elysian Park.

Bert previously served as a commanding officer in the San Fernando Valley's traffic division. Prior to that, he was a commanding officer in the Southeast Division. He has also worked as a Gang Unit lieutenant in LAPD's Pacific Community Division.
