Elderly Pedestrian Killed by Car in Glassell Park ID'd

The accident occursat 5:50 p.m. Sunday at Eagle Rock Boulevard and Avenue 41.

Authorities Monday released the name of a man fatally injured when he was struck by a car while crossing an Glassell Park street in a crosswalk near Eagle Rock.

The accident occurred at 5:50 p.m. Sunday at Eagle Rock Boulevard and Avenue 41, said Officer William Brown of the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Traffic Division.

Assistant Coroner Chief Ed Winter said the victim was identified as Jeremias Ignacio, 83.     

"The driver was northbound in the number 2 lane of Eagle Rock Boulevard and the pedestrian was crossing eastbound in the crosswalk on Avenue 41 when he was struck in the crosswalk," Brown said. "He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead."

The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with officers, Brown said. "He basically said he didn't see the man. There was no alcohol or drugs involved."

The investigation was continuing, he said.
