A 49-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning when the sport utility vehicle in which she was a passenger slammed into a tree on a Ventura (134) Freeway offramp in Glendale, a California Highway Patrol Officer said.
The woman was later identified as Wendelin Jung, a resident of Eagle Rock, said Coroner's Investigator Joyce Kato.
The 45-year-old man who was driving the Toyota SUV sustained moderate injuries in the 2 a.m. crash on the Pacific Avenue offramp from the westbound side of the freeway. His name was not released, but he was taken to County-USC Medical Center, said CHP Officer Monica Posada.
The vehicle appeared to have rolled off the freeway's westbound lanes and onto the offramp, according to a news photographer at the scene who said Glendale firefighters had to cut both victims from the wreckage.
The man was conscious and breathing while being loaded into an ambulance, he said.
The crash and ensuing investigation shut down the offramp until 5 a.m., according to the CHP.
