Firefighters Thursday battled another traffic-snarling fire in the landscape of a major freeway interchange between Glendale and Eagle Rock.

Grass and mulch caught fire in heavily vegetated slivers of land between ramps of the Ventura (134) Freeway east of the Glendale (2) Freeway overpasses about 3:45 p.m., according to Los Angeles fire spokesman Brian Humphrey.

About 80 Los Angeles and Glendale firefighters confined the blaze to less than an acre, Humphrey said. Three water-dropping helicopters also were called in as a precaution.

For about 15 minutes, the ramp from the south 2 to the east 134 were blocked by fire trucks.

It was the third time in recent days the interchange has been the site of a landscape fire with lane closures, Humphrey said.
