Man Arrested After 30-Minute Standoff With LAPD on Norwalk Avenue

Police responded to a domestic violence call Tuesday evening, west of Ellenwood Drive.

The LAPD arrested a man Tuesday night after he allegedly beat up his wife or girlfriend in a house on Norwalk Avenue in Eagle Rock, an officer at the Northeast Community Station said.

The suspect initially refused to come out of the residence when police officers got there at around 7:45 p.m., but he then complied after a roughly half-hour standoff with the police and was taken into custody, Sgt. Eddie Ortiz said.

Nobody was injured during the standoff, and the suspect was not armed, Ortiz said, adding that it wasn’t clear whether the woman who was allegedly beaten was the suspect’s wife or girlfriend.

About five LAPD squad cars, with helicopter support, responded to the domestic violence incident, Ortiz said.

Officers blocked the stretch of Norwalk Avenue west of Ellenwood Drive, well past the College View Avenue crossing. Residents who wished to enter the area were not allowed in during the police standoff with the suspect.

An LAPD officer at the scene of the incident told Eagle Rock Patch that she and other squad cars had received a radio call about an armed suspect in the area.

Eagle Rock Patch received a news tip about the incident from a couple that lives on the hilly stretch of Norwalk, northwest of College View Avenue (see map).

The couple said police did not allow them to drive up to their residence at around 7:15 p.m. Besides witnessing several police cars, they reported seeing an ambulance and two helicopters circling above Norwalk with searchlights on.
