Motive and Suspect Still a Mystery in Shooting of Gardener in Eagle Rock

The LAPD says it has no witnesses and the victim does not know who shot him.

Los Angeles Police Department detectives are still seeking a motive and a suspect description in the Saturday morning shooting of a gardener on the 1800 block of North Avenue 51 in Eagle Rock.

A woman came home around 10.m. Saturday and said she discovered her gardener lying in her yard after he had been shot three times. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, no one in the area claims to have seen the shooting, and the victim, who is listed in serious but stable condition, has told police he does not know who shot him.

"I think we have a couple neighbors that heard the gunshots and that’s it, nobody that actually saw the shooting," Det. Lisa Governo of the LAPD's Northeast Division told Patch. "It appeared to have happened in the back yard of the residence."

At this time, the LAPD does not suspect that the shooting is gang-related.

"It does not appear to be [gang-related] at this point. It’s not a typical gang shooting," Governo said. "Unless [the victim] tells us something different I would say at this point we’re not handling it as gang-related."

The victim, identified only has a male Hispanic in his 40s, is still under heavy sedation and has been unable to provide detectives with much information, according to Det. Jeanna Franco.

"We're waiting for him to come out of it a little bit more and see if he does remember more. As of right now, the information we are getting from him is he doesn't know who the heck shot him," Franco said.

Patch will be following this story and updating our readers with more information as soon as it is available.
