Occidental College Safe From Police Activity Linked to Gunman (Update)

Campus Safety officers were patrolling Occidental College during the two-hour search for a gunman who fled LAPD's gang unit officers Wednesday.

The campus was not affected by the two-hour police search for a gunman who fled from LAPD’s gang unit officers Wednesday.

“Our Campus Safety officers were patrolling the campus and we were in contact with the LAPD,” Rhea Borja, associate director of communications at Occidental College said.

“No additional action was necessary [and] had there been cause to notify people to do things differently we would have notified them through a system called ‘Oxy Alert,’ which sends a message to their cell phones,” Borja added.

At about 2 p.m. Wednesday, K9 police officers apprehended a man who they believe fled from officers of the LAPD’s gang unit around noon.

An alleged accomplice of the man had been taken into custody earlier.
