Photos: Eagle Rockers Celebrate National Night Out

The turnout at Eagle Rock Plaza disappoints, but the crowds at the Seventh Day Adventist Church make up for the low numbers.

Eagle Rock residents celebrated the 30th anniversary of National Night Out at two separate locations Tuesday—in the upper parking lot of Target at Eagle Rock Plaza and at the Seventh Day Adventist Church about half a mile away.

While the location at Target, the usual venue for the annual event in Eagle Rock, attracted no more than several dozen people, the Seventh Day Adventist Church pulled in large crowds amid a carnival-like atmosphere. (See photos.)

Sponsored by the office of Councilmember José Huizar, Sir Michael’s Party Rentals and the Los Angeles Police Department Northeast Community station, National Night Out is aimed at increasing public awareness about crime and drug prevention as well as generating support for local anticrime initiatives, including by strengthening police-community partnerships.
