Police Yet To Find Gun In Search Area Near Occidental College (Update)

No charges yet against the two suspects, who are familiar to LAPD Gang Unit officers.

LAPD Gang Unit officers said they recognized a car-borne gunman and his accomplice shortly before asking them to stop near , triggering a two-hour search for the gunman that ended around 2 p.m.

The officers recognized the suspects “from prior contact and tried to stop them,” said Sergeant Kunch, the watch commander at the LAPD Northeast Community Police Station.

While the suspect who was driving the car stayed at the wheel, the gunman fled, Kunch added, prompting a search that led to the closure of several residential streets, most notably Avenue 46, southwest of Occidental College.

A man was eventually apprehended by K9 officers. A handgun that he was believed to be armed with has not yet been found, Kunch said.

Neither of the suspects has been charged with any crime so far. “We might be able to file something but I don’t know specifically what it’s going to be yet,” Kunch said.

The LAPD watch commander described the suspects as in their early 20s but declined to give their names because an investigation against them is underway.
