Property Crimes Increase Slightly, Violent Crimes Fall Dramatically

Compared to the period from January to June 15, 2012, the Eagle Rock area has seen a 1.6-percent increase in property crimes.

Violent crimes in the Eagle Rock area policed by Los Angeles Police Department Senior Lead Officer Nina Preciado are down by nearly a third so far this year compared to the period from January through June 15, 2012, although burglaries are up by nearly half and there’s only a slight increase in property crimes.

According to a report that Eagle Rock Patch obtained from the Crime Analysis Detail of the LAPD Northeast Division, robberies decreased by 9 percent in the period spanning Jan. 1, 2013 to June 15, over the corresponding period last year in SLO Preciado’s so-called “Basic Car” area that encompasses nearly all of Eagle Rock and a small adjoining portion of Mount Washington. (The Northeast Division is divided into eight Basic Car areas, each under a senior lead officer.)

There have been 10 robberies so far this year, and 12 incidents of aggravated assault, according to the report. Burglaries, however, have risen by 48.8 percent over the January-June 15, 2012 period, and incidents of Grand Theft Auto decreased by 11.3 percent, according to the report. (There have been 61 burglaries so far this year, compared to 41 last year, and 55 GTAs compared to 62 last year.)

Burglary Thefts From Vehicles have increased slightly by 1.3 percent—from 79 in roughly the first half of 2012 to 115 so far this year.

In all, violent crimes have fallen by 32.4 percent—from 34 incidents in the January-June 15, 2012 period to 23 so far this year.
